Museveni Orders KCCA to Allow Tuk-Tuk Tricycles to Operate Again

President Yoweri Museveni has directed Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to allow tri-cycle taxis known as Tuk Tuk to operate.

Recently, Kampala minister Beti Kamya banned tri-cycle tuk-tuks from operating alongside motorcycle taxis known as bodabodas and taxis after scuffles between the operators of tuk-tuks, and taxis.

Museveni on Tuesday campaigned for his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidate William Sebalu Sitenda in the Kyadondo East by-election due Thursday.

Museveni also met Nabugabo boda boda and taxi operators at Kasangati Resort Hotel.

The president said he had “heard their issues through the leadership” and assured them that “at an appropriate time we are going to sit again together with line ministers to get to the bottom of some of the issues raised. For example the call for election of leaders, an old pledge of three taxis and the recent ban of the three wheel motorcycles (tuk-tuk).”

He temporarily halted the ban on tri-cycles.

“In the meantime the people using these motorcycles can resume operations.”
