Kampala Minister Beti Olive Namisango Kamya has urged Ugandans to support the lifting of the presidential age limit to allow Uganda’s three-decade ruler Yoweri Museveni to contest for reelection in 2021.
Kamya says President Museveni is a blessing from and should rule beyond 75 years of age
The city minister was speaking during at interview with NTV Uganda.
“It is a blessing to have such a person (referring to President Museveni) and we just want to do away with him merely because some people want to be in power. It doesn’t make sense,” Kamya said.
“I think Ugandans should come out and be wise and push for a constitutional amendment so that as long as God has given President Museveni the strength to lead this country, he should continue,” Kamya added.

Born in 1944, Museveni who took power in 1986, will not be eligible for reelection in 2021. He will be over 75 years of age – and age at which one is not allowed to stand for president according to article 102b of the constitution.
Museveni on Wednesday said there was no age limit amendment proposal, terming the ongoing debate on the same as a “nonsense”.
