News reaching us indicates that Ugandan musician and Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu better known by his stage name Bobi Wine has Friday afternoon been arrested upon his arrival at Entebbe Airport.
Bobi Wine has been in New York, USA where he attended the Global Citizens Week and later the Global Goal keepers conference organized by American investor and philanthropist Bill Gates and his wife Melinda.
Before his arrest at Entebbe, there was a stand-off between the singer’s supporters who had gone to welcome him and the police. He is currently being detained at Entebbe police Station.
It is not yet clear why the legislator was arrested but his arrest comes at a time when there are protests in different parts of the country against lifting of the presidential age limit.
Bobi Wine is among the politicians and activists that are opposed to the deletion of article 102b that puts the upper age limit at 75 years beyond which one cannot stand for president.
If the article is not deleted, Uganda’s three-decade president Yoweri Museveni will be ineligible for reelection when the east African land locked third world country next goes to the polls in 2021.
A bill for the lifting of the age limit is expected to be tabled by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi next week.
