Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has Thursday told MPs that the much-anticipated Age Limit Bill will be discussed next week on Monday (December 18).
The speaker revealed to legislators that she had received a report from the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee and a minority report on the bill.
“Parliament shall convene at 9:00am on Monday to receive and debate the two reports,” Speaker Kadaga told MPs on Thursday afternoon.
“I now ask the Clerk to provide the report to all members so that they go through it and prepare for a debate,” Kadaga added.
The bill moved by Igara County West MP Raphael Magyezi, seeks among other things, to delete the upper age limit in article 102b of the constitution to allow anyone to stand for president beyond the age of 75.
Born in 1944 and in power since 1986, President Museveni will be over 75 and therefore ineligible for reelection when Uganda next goes to the polls in 2021.
