Government has declared three days of mourning following the nasty bus accident that occurred in Kiryandongo District on Friday night.
The accident involving a Gaagaa bus, a tractor and a lorry claimed at least 22 lives and left many injured.
According to Police, the bus reg no. UAK 562 L was trying to overtake a vehicle when it rammed into a tractor (UAU 872 M) which didn’t have reflectors.
The bus also knocked a lorry (UAT 088J) and all drivers died on spot.
In a press release issued by the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda on Sunday, President Museveni has declared three days of national mourning in honour of the lives lost in the accident.
“Government is declaring three days of National Mourning starting today, Sunday 27th May 2018,” Rugunda said.
During the days of mourning, all flags will fly at half-mast.
According to the Prime Minister, Government will give Shs 5 million to relatives of each of the deceased to assist in burial arrangements. Shs 3 million will be given to those that sustained serious injuries.
Police is yet to give a detailed report about the accident.
