The senior counsel representing for Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura, Jet Tumwebaze has broken the silence that was surrounding the reported arrest of the General, saying he is not in jail.
Tumwebaze said that he together with his colleagues of Kampala Associated Advocates have had a number of visits to Kayihura’s house in Makindye Army Barracks and can confirm that he is fine.
“General Kale Kayihura is well. He is however so disturbed by the falsehoods going on in the media,” Tumwebaze said while appearing on NBS TV’s morning show.
“He is in the military barracks with a house, a bedroom and a sitting room, he’s not in a cell.”
Kayihura was picked by military officials from his Lyantonde country home over a week ago and flown to Kampala. His Muyenga residence would later be surrounded by Military officials who are still guarding it up to now.
Unconfirmed reports have indicated that the general is being charged with the murder of departed Police Spokesperson, AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi who was killed in March 2017.
But Kayihura’s lawyers say that the General is innocent.
“The man is innocent of all the crimes. Gen. Kayihura hasn’t yet recorded any ink of statement, he has not yet been interrogated by the military and hasn’t been charged with any of the allegations in the media,” said Tumwebaze.
The Tower Post understands that access to Kayihura has been limited to immediate family members and his lawyers.
