Father Simon Lokodo, the Minister of State for Ethics and Integrity has spoken out on the letter asking Internal Affairs Minister Jeje Odongo to block the upcoming MTN Nyege Nyege festival.
The letter which is dated September 3rd surfaced on social media on Tuesday September 4th, leaving mixed reactions about its authenticity since it wasn’t on any headed paper.
In the letter, Lokodo asks Minister Odongo to instruct the Inspector General of Police to stop the MTN Nyege Nyege event which was slated to run from Thursday September 6th to Sunday September 9th.
Lokodo argued that “the purpose of this festival in the last two years has been compromised to accommodate the celebration and recruitment of young people into homosexuality and LGBTI movement.”
“It is our responsibility as government to protect the citizens against such vices,” he added.
Lokodo confirms Authenticity of the letter
When contacted on Tuesday afternoon, Lokodo confirmed that he had written the letter which was sent to the Minister of Internal affairs.
“Go ahead and make your publication. I wrote the letter to the Internal Affairs Minister and I am now taking it to the President,” Lokodo exclusively told The Tower Post on phone.
Asked whether he thought his efforts were not too late, Lokodo said; “that is why I am proceeding to the president to make sure the decision is made as fast as possible.
But MTN, the telecommunications company that is the major sponsor of the event maintains that it will happen as scheduled.
“The Party is STILL ON with only 2 days to #MTNNyegeNyege, the biggest festival of the year. Join the party with Tickets still available at the Venue,” MTN posted on their social media.
