Youths in Sekanyonyi-Lusanja Village, Kasangati Town Council, in Wakiso District on Wednesday sang in praise of Bobi Wine a day after president Yoweri Museveni’s visit.
Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu), the Kyadondo East MP, was in the area to check on the residents evicted from the village.
On Friday, a one Medard Kiconco evicted at least 350 homes, settled on a 75-acre piece of land, fencing off the land.
As Bobi Wine, a rising political figure and a singer, visited on Wednesday, youths chanted “We want Bobi, not Bosco.”
Bosco is a name some use to refer to Museveni. Bosco is a character in an MTN Mobile money advert.
On Tuesday, Museveni visited the residents and ordered that the evictions be stopped.
Kiconco and other businessmen are expected to evict at least 250 more homes in the area.
“No one should carry out any further demolition and those behind the eviction will be prosecuted,” orderedthe president, who was in the company of land probe commission boss Catherine Bamugemereire, junior education minister Rosemary Seninde and junior lands minister Persis Namuganza.
Museveni also directed the Office of the Prime Minister to “buy tents for the victims of this eviction to stay in, buy them food as government works out compensation for the loss of property as we look out for those behind the demolition”.
On her part, Bamugemereire said the commission had “stopped any action on this land but the holders went ahead and lied to the police”.
Bamugemereire added: “We were surprised that Kiconco hoodwinked the police to destroy peoples’ property without notice.”
Bobi Wine promised to pursue the matter but told the evicted people to play their part. He urged them to stay on the land.
He also took a swipe at Museveni’s government agencies such as police for failing to do their work and siding with land grabbers.
He also described Kiconco as one of ‘Museveni’s men’.
