CMI Allows Family Members Access to Yusuf Kawooya at Kireka Detention

The Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) has allowed the father and other family members of Yusuf Kawooya access to him in detention at Kireka.

Human rights lawyer Nicholas Opiyo has confirmed the visit.

“The Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence has granted Yusuf Kawooya’s father and family access to him at the SIU [Special Investigations Unit] Kireka dungeon,” Opiyo said.

“They have just finished talking to him.”

Kawooya has been in detention since he was brutally arrested along Colville Street in Kampala.

The reason for Kawooya’s brutal arrest remains unknown.

But Opiyo said he was pushing for Kawooya’s production in court.

“No one knows the reasons for his arrest but we are pressing for his release or production in court,” he said.

Kawooya’s tormentors appeared before the unit disciplinary court, a military court, at the weekend and pleaded guilty to the charges of brutal arrest.
