Telecommunications company MTN Uganda has increased charges on transferring money from one’s mobile wallet to their Bank account.
This was revealed via the company’s official website, with a table detailing all the increases which will take effect on February 1st 2019.
Although reasons for the hikes remain unclear, The Tower Post understands that Mobile Money – Bank interoperability was on a rise lately.
Technology pundits however say the move will cripple financial inclusion in the country.
“Financial inclusion will take decades to become a reality in Uganda. Interoperability is being raped,” said a one Joshua Agaba, an IT practitioner.
Others say this is a move by the telecom to discourage people from moving money from their platform (Mobile Money) to another platform (Bank)
