Local musician Ronald Mayinja has quit Golden Band, where he has been a member together with fellow musicians; Mesach Semakula, Maureen Nantume, Grace Sekamatte, Catherine Kusasira and Fred Seruga among others.
Mayinja announced on Wednesday that he had bed farewell to his fellow Golden Band members at the beginning of the year.
“I decided to quit Golden band because I am busy lately with school and other duties, which made it difficult for me to perform at the band’s shows and attend the band’s other programs,” Mayinja said.
“I went back to study in an adult program at Makerere University and it takes a lot of my time. The band has been organizing shows, some in areas distant from Kampala and putting me on the lineup of performers, and sometimes am forced to disappoint them because of my busy schedule. I didn’t want that to continue this year,” he explained.
Speaking to The Tower Post’s Alex Alinda, Golden Band’s Mesach Semakula confirmed that Ronald Mayinja had thrown in the towel.
“Yes, it is true our brother Mayinja is no longer with us. But his reasons for leaving are not clear and only known to him. I think he wants to concentrate and be more active in politics in the time to come. But whatever it is, we thank him for the time he has spent with us and wish him the best,” Semakula said.
Female singer Hajjat Stecia Mayanja also quit Golden Band in September 2018.
Golden Band was formed after the split of the original Eagles Production in 2014.
Mesach Semakula, Ronald Mayinja, Maureen Nantume, Stecia Mayanja, Grace Sekamatte, Catherine Kusasira, Fred Seruga and others decided to form Golden Band while Geoffrey Lutaaya and his wife Irene Namatovu formed Da New Eagles.
