The Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) has arrested two of its officers following the Sunday incident where retired Maj Gen Matayo Kyaligonza and his guards assaulted a female traffic officer in Seeta Town, Mukono District.
The two UPDF Military Police officers RA/221607 L/CPL Bushindiki Peter and RA/230927 Pte Okurut John Robert, who were guarding Gen Kyaligonza, were arrested on Sunday evening after they were photographed manhandling the female officer earlier on the same day.
UPDF Spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire confirmed the arrest of the two UPDF officers.
“We wish to inform the public that as invesigations into circumstances that led to the Seeta incident continue, UPDF has arrested RA/221607 L/CPL Bushindiki Peter and RA/230927 Pte Okurut John Robert,” Brig Karemire wrote on Twitter.
Brig Karemire added that the two are currently being held at Military Police Headquarters.
According to eye witnesses, the female traffic officer stopped the car, in which Gen Kyaligonza was being chauffeured, from making a U-turn in Seeta.
Gen Kyaligonza and his guards would then jump out of the car to assault and intimidate her.
