Gulu Magistrates Court has Monday morning granted bail to Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake, who was sent on remand on February 22nd 2019.
Zaake was arrested on February 21st in Kampala and driven to Arua where he appeared before the Arua chief Magistrates Court and was granted bail.
He was moments later re-arrested and driven to Gulu Magistrates Court and charged with treason arising from the August 2018 Arua election violence.
Police also accused the legislator of escaping from Police custody in Arua and jumping bond.
Zaake has been granted non-cash bail of Shs 5 million and ordered to return to court with his co-accused on 14th March, 2019.
Present at the hearing of his bail application were fellow MPs Robert Kyagulanyi, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Paul Mwiru and Allan Ssewanyana among others.
