High Court in Kampala on Tuesday (March 29, 2019) granted bail to eight of the suspects accused of murdering former Police Spokesman AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

Kaweesi, his driver Wambewo and body guard, Kenneth Erau were gunned down by unknown assailants in Kulambiro, Kampala in March 2017.

High Court Judge Justice Lydia Mugambe released the suspects on a non cash bail of Shs 150 million, while their sureties were placed on a Shs 250 million bond.

The judge while making her ruling noted that even though the eight are indicted with offences of terrorism and murder, it would be unfair to keep them on remand without knowing when their trial will be held.

The suspects have been restricted from travelling outside Uganda without permission from the court, as a bail condition.

They were however returned to prison until Friday (March 22, 2019) when state prosecution is expected to produce identification documents that had been confiscated from the at the time of arrest.

The suspects have been on remand at Luzira prison since April 2017.
