The Higher Education Student Financing Board (HESFB) has released the list of 1,834 students who have qualified for study loans for the 2019/2020 academic year.
Dr John Chrysostom Muyingo, the Junior education minister in charge of higher education, released the list at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala on Tuesday.
Dr Muyingo said government would increase funds for the loan scheme as it has been the case over the years.
“The Government of Uganda over the years has been increasing the budget of the board,” noted Muyingo.
“In the financial year 2019/20, Government allocated an additional resource of Shs 2.4b, bringing the total budget to Shs 30b and this has enabled the board to award loans to 1,834 students.”
Meanwhile, Makerere and Kyambogo topped the list successful loan scheme beneficiaries.
Some 327 applicants will go to Makerere University, 294 to Kyambogo, 181 to Bishop Stuart University, 174 to Mbarara University of Science and Technology (174), 139 to Busitema University (139) and Ndejje 126 to University.
More male applicants, 1,216 in number (about 65 per cent), were awarded study loans.
