Robert Muganza, a grade one Magistrate at Buganda Road Court has ordered for the release of the 46 students who were arrested by police during the strike that started on Tuesday.

The students led by Vice Guild President Judith Naluwago, petitioned court over the detention of their colleagues.

In the petition, the students stated their colleagues were being held in cells beyond the mandatory 48 hours within which they should to be brought before a competent court of law.

It is the petition that prompted Muganza to order for the release of 46 detained students.

Makerere students are protesting the cumulative 15% tuition increment by the University administration.
