Ugandans will now have to apply for passports only through digital means as the manual application process has been phased out. The government recently activated the e-application portal which can be found on the website www.passports.go.ug.
Government launched the digital passport in 2018 to meet international standards.
Outgoing Minister for ICT Frank Tumwebaze said the launch of e-passports is a step forward towards fighting corruption.
The online method eliminates personal contact and queues. The website is easy to browse and friendly. One is required to fill a form containing personal information which is kept private according to the Privacy Policy on the website.
When a person enters their details into the system, they are given a reference number, which they can then use to track their application.
