Sam Bitangaro, the MP for Bufumbira County South in Kisoro District has been remanded to Luzira Prison over fraud.
The MP is pinned in a case of selling non-existent land in Kassanda and Gomba districts. Charges of obtaining money by false pretense, fraudulent procurement of title and fraud on sale or mortgage of property, were preferred against him.
He is charged along three other accomplices; John Francis Onyango Owor, a city lawyer, William Tumwine, an officer in charge of Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme at the Gender Ministry, and his wife Stella Kakuba.
They were all arraigned before Makindye Court on Thursday.
They are to appear in court again on January 6.
The MP and his cohort had gone to answer their bond when police nabbed them.
In May 21, Bitangaro is said to have obtained shs1.32b from a Sacco named Kiboga Twegatte Cooperative Society Ltd. He lied that he had good and a highly marketable land title measuring 492 hectares in Kasanda District.
According to prosecution, Bitangaro also procured a land title to Singo Block 308 plot 146 illegally. He created an irregular sub-division of plot yet he had already sold it to the Sacco.
The MP according to prosecution sold 780 hectares at Shs1.3 billion at Bukompe, Nalutuntu Sub-county in Kasanda District.
