President Museveni has mourned fallen soldier, Rtd Maj. Gen Benon Biraaro saying that he will forever be remembered.
Biraaro who died on Wednesday after losing a battle to colon cancer was buried in Masha Sub County in Isingiro District on Sunday. Museveni sent a message through Minister of Security Gen Elly Tumwine.
He described Biraaro as a patriotic and incorruptible person.
.“Biraaro was a fiercely principled man whose words matched his actions. He was incorruptible, balanced and fair person throughout his lifetime,” Museveni said.
Adding that “He built bridges of friendship and brotherhood in the whole country; wherever he went he left indelible footprints. His death leaves a huge vacuum that will be difficult to fill. He was a pillar and a man of enormous influence.”
Museveni urged young people to emulate Biraaro.
Biraaro formerly contested against Museveni in the 2016 presidential elections running on the Farmers Party of Uganda ticket.
Former Presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye also spoke greatly about Biraaro resounding the same words the President had said. “Gen Biraaro stood for fairness, that’s why he fell out with NRM.”
