The inspectorate of Government (IGG) has suggested the amendment of the Leadership Code Act to ensure that all civil servants declare their wealth. The IGG believes the proposed amendments if put into action will help government to fight against corruption.
The proposed amedments do not exclude anyone, both low ranking and high ranking officials will have to declare their wealth. These include; teachers, doctors, nurses, secretaries, guards, clerks and office attendants.
This plan was made public by the director for Leadership Code Act in the IGG office, Annet Twine, during the IGG stakeholders meeting with Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in Kampala.
Twine said said arrangements have been finalised to establish the Leadership Code Tribunal to adjudicate cases of breach of law on wealth declarations.
“The tribunal is important in enforcement to determine penalties in cases of failure to declare wealth. The establishment of the tribunal is in final stages and the cycle of enforcement of the code would be complete,” she said.
