Police Arrests 11 Suspects for Pelting Bebe Cool with Bottles

The Police have arrested 11 suspects said to have pelted Bebe Cool with bottles at Cindy Sanyu’s Boom Party Concert on Saturday at Cricket Oval.

The development was announced by police spokesperson Fred Enanga on Monday, “The suspects were arrested by our covert officers that were within the crowd. They are detained at Jinja Road Police Station,” Enanga told journalists.

He said the act of fans pelting musicians is not going to be tolerated.

This comes at the back of criticism by the First Son Lt. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba over the failure by the police to allow hooligan to pelt a superstar singer.

“How could Police and the bouncers at Cindy’s concert allow a few hooligans to hurl bottles at one of Uganda’s greatest artistes? The same hooligans beat up women (on Women’s Day) for simply loving President Museveni and Bebe Cool. We expect a lot better next time from
Uganda Police Force,” he tweeted.

In January, Police warned promoters against hiring singers who are disliked, “We would like to issue a serious warning to event promoters and organisers against acts of disorder by revellers and activists burling bottles and stones during public events and in particular music concerts. We do not want to see a repeat of these ugly incidents which have the potential of putting lives of participants at greater risk.”

“We want everyone attending these events or concerts to have all the fun while obeying the law by acting responsibly and staying safe. It is a timely warning at the beginning of the year so that sanctions can be taken against an organiser or promoter who fails to address acts of hooliganism and disorders.”

Police advised promoters to invest in research to find out which musicians are not wanted by the public and these should not be invited for concerts.
