Police Arrests Teachers and Pupils of Kabojja for Conducting Classes

The police have arrested a total of about 20 pupils and teachers of  Kabojja Junior School-Kitante after they were caught conducting classes, a violation of the President’s directive to close schools.

“We have them with us and we are going to find out why they are going against the presidential directive to close schools,” the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest.

The students were taken in shifts to Kira Road police station.

President Yoweri Museveni ordered last week that all institutions of learning be closed and learners sent home in a bid to protect the country against coronavirus (COVID-19).

The directive came before Uganda confirmed the first coronavirus case. On Saturday, the Ministry of Health announced that a Ugandan had tested positive of the virus.

According to Dr Ruth Aceng, the Health Minister, the patient had travelled from Dubai to Uganda. The government has since tightened vigilance and introduced new measures including suspension of flights.
