Senior police officers led by the chief political commissar, AIGP Asan Kasingye on Monday paid a courtesy visit to Lowena Rachel, a senior six student and her mother at their home in Massajja, Makindye, a Kampala suburb.
The officers discussed the welfare and health condition of the Lowena and the mother The police also promised to foot the medical bills of the two.
Nankya was shot on 11th March 2020 on the mouth by a trigger happy KCCA law enforcement officer as she returned to school with her mother near old taxi park. The student and her mother were caught up in the confusion in the city when KCCA officers were chasing street vendors.
Earlier last week the speaker of the parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon Alitwala Kadaga expressed her disappointment when she visited Lowena at Mulago and learnt that police and KCCA had not taken any practical step to the wellbeing of Lowena and her mother.
“It’s more depressing because Parliament ordered the Internal Affairs Minister & KCCA to check on her & foot medical & upkeep bills. Nankya’s mum, who was returning her to school, on 11th March, was also shot & is admitted. The lack of empathy by police & KCCA’s very disheartening.” Kadaga tweeted.
