Legends Rugby Grounds Runs Out Of Business After 14 Years

One of Kampala’s most beloved sports and nightlife landmarks has officially closed its doors.

After 14 years of energizing the city’s social and rugby scenes, Legends Sports Bar famously nestled next to the Legends Rugby Grounds in Lugogo has ceased operations, marking the end of an era for thousands of loyal patrons.

The announcement came via a heartfelt public notice from management, confirming that the closure follows the expiration of the bar’s lease at Plot 1 & 3 Sports Lane.

Despite efforts to negotiate a renewal, talks reportedly stalled, forcing the permanent shutdown of the cherished venue.

“Following the expiry of our lease at Plot 1 & 3 Sports Lane, Lugogo, Legends is now closed at these premises. We are deeply grateful for 14 unforgettable years of sports, hospitality, and entertainment,” read the official statement posted on the bar’s X (formerly Twitter) account.

Founded in 2012, Legends quickly became more than just a bar. It evolved into a cultural hotspot a melting pot for rugby fans, music lovers, and Kampala’s vibrant party scene.

From live screenings of major sporting events and themed nights to post-match hangouts and unforgettable weekend parties, the venue played host to a generation of nightlife memories.

Its location, just a stone’s throw from the rugby pitch, made it the unofficial home of Uganda’s rugby community.

Over the years, it supported local tournaments, promoted youth sports, and served as a key meeting ground for fans, players, and enthusiasts alike.

The closure comes amid a broader shift in Kampala’s nightlife landscape, with several high-profile venues including Guvnor, Levels Lounge, and Mevek Lounge also recently shutting down.

This wave of closures has raised questions about the sustainability and future of the city’s once-thriving entertainment scene.
