Excitement and Joy is what doctors and nurses at Mulago were swimming in on April 14, as the hospital discharged coronavirus patients.
“Even those who will not be discharged today are doing well. Their first test is negative and and we are waiting for the second test results,” one of the medical doctors revealed.
Among the 4 patients discharged, there was an 8 months baby who tested negative twice for the coronavirus disease.
While releasing the patients, Dr Baterana Byarugaba said the outbreak of coronavirus was an eye opener for Uganda and suggested that the country should take advantage of the crisis to improve the health care system.
Doctor Baterana also encouraged communities to warmly welcome the patients discharged and avoid stigamatizing them.
“Through social workers, we shall keep in touch with the discharged patients,” Dr.Baterana said.
While the government has disclosed that they are looking forward to discharging more patients, the total number of discharged patients currently stands at 12.
