Abid Alam Remanded to Kitalya Prison

Buganda Court grade one magistrate Ketty Accay has remanded businessman, Abid Alam, and four other police officers identified as Wilbert Osin Wanyama Wamala regional CID, Daniel Owellano Kasanda DPC, Peter Beitera Kassanda CID officer and the officer in charge of CID records at Kassanda Police station Sgt. Azale all attached to Wamala regional police headquarters.

Abid was arrested along with the four officers on Saturday evening last week by the State House Anti- Corruption Unit headed by Lt.Col.Edith Nakalema over violence meted out to locals at Bukompe village in Kassanda district.

The four officers are said to have jeopardized the investigations by leaking vital information to the businessman, Abid Alam, regarding a case which was being investigated at Kassanda police station in which the businessman is alleged to have terrorized Kassanda residents over a contentious piece of land.

According to what is gathered by the state prosecutors, Abid and the four police officers committed the offence on April 8 between Mityana police station and Ntinda in Kampala.

Abid Alam who had earlier gone missing was re-arrested yesterday and was presented at Buganda Road court amid heavy security.

Abid owns a number of businesses in East Africa including, Rolling Steel Mills Jinja , Saimmco Limited,  Sugar & Allied Industries Limited, Kaliro , Kaliro Power Station Kaliro, Crocodile Tool Company Limited Jinja, Alam Property Limited Kampala, Rhino Footwear Limited Kampala, Casements Africa Limited Kampala, Roofclad Limited Kampala, to mention but a few.
