Eric Sakwa’s woes are far from over. The Jinja Resident District Commissioner has been interdicted pending investigations into criminal charges against him. Sakwa is facing charges of manslaughter (killing without intent). He was recently released on bail and has been going on with his duties.
In a letter by Hajji Yunus Kakande, who is the Secretary in the Office of the President, Sakwa is asked to step aside from the office of the RDC until investigations into his case are closed.
“In accordance with section F-S paragraph 8 of the Public Service Orders (2018), you are hereby interdicted in your position as Resident District Commissioner and therefore barred from exercising the powers and functions of your office with immediate effect,” reads the letter in part.
The letter was written on May 4.
The letter also instructs Sakwa not to leave the country without clearance from the Office of the President.
Despite being interdicted, Sakwa will still receive salary, albeit only half of it. According to the letter, the other half will be refunded if the charges and interdiction is cancelled.
His duties as RDC will be handled by the Internal Security Officer in Jinja, until further notice.
