Embattled Jinja Resident District Commissioner Eric Sakwa has run to court protesting his interdiction. Sakwa has filed a lawsuit in which he says his suspension from office was not lawful.
It is just and equitable that the purported interdiction which was irregularly procured is quashed and the respondents and or their agents are prohibited from putting the applicant out of office until a proper procedure for his interdiction is followed,” reads the court document filed by his lawyers.
“The applicant was never given any fair hearing before interdiction letter was written and all rules of natural justice were flouted. The ostensible reason for interdiction is a case of man slaughter for which the applicant was charged in court yet it is not one of the conditions of service for the applicant that if he has any criminal case in court against him, he has to be interdicted.”
Sakwa says he has not received any proof that President Museveni who appointed him approves of his interdiction.
He says the interdiction letter beared only Hajji Yunus Kirunda’s name and signature. Kirunda is a secretary in the Office of the President.
In a letter issued weeks back, Kirunda ordered Sakwa to handover office to the District Security Officer to pave way for investigations into charges of manslaughter against him.
Sakwa has, however, until today not left office.
He said on Monday that he still has to file a report before he can handover. “This office is not like a car that when you tell me to handover it happens immediately.”
