The government has postponed the distribution of face masks countrywide according to the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health Dr Diana Atwine.
The distribution was scheduled to start today at the border districts. But according to Atwine, distribution will not take place today because the production of the recommended three-layered masks has not yet started
The Ministry had initially recommended that companies produce two-layered masks, but later changed and asked companies to manufacture three-layered masks.
Companies were forced to start again from square one.
According to the UNBS director, Dr Ben Manyindo samples from the ministry are being examined and this might take three days. After then, the production will start.
