Parents Are Begging Me Not to Open Schools—President Museveni

While officiating Heroes’ Day celebrations on Tuesday at State House, President Museveni said that he is receiving pleas from parents requesting him not to open schools until the threat of coronavirus is out.

The President ordered for the closure of schools in March as a measure to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

There were plans to reopen earlier this month specifically for candidate classes, but the President postponed the plan for another 30 days.

“Many of the parents do not want schools to open,” President Museveni said yesterday at Entebbe.

He narrated that he had received a phone call from one elder telling him to declare 2020 a dead academic year.

“Let the year be wasted but children survive,” a parent told Museveni.

Uganda has a total of 657 COVID-19 confirmed cases and 103 recoveries and no fatalities.
