NUP Finally Speaks Out on Latif Ssebagala’s Withdrawal from Lord Mayor Race

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has finally come out to comment on the withdrawal of Al Hajj Latif Ssebagala from the Kampala Lord Mayoral race that he announced yesterday.

Ssebagala who had been endorsed for the seat said yesterday that he was stepping down to maintain unity in the country’s opposition.

He had been preferred as a better candidate ahead of famous singer Joseph Mayanja a.k.a Jose Chameleone.

While appearing on BBS TV’s ‘Maaso ku Gwanga’ political talk show, NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi said the party respects Ssebagala’s decision and are still in talks to forge a way forward.

“We assed them both on ground and in the vetting process it came out that he was better than Chameleone. That is why we gave him the card because we were confident he would make it,” Ssenyonyi said.

“We are still in talks and by Wednesday, we shall update the nation on our next steps.”

Whether the party will consider Joseph Mayanja as their next option for the race or not remains to be seen as no other member has shown interest in the seat that is currently occupied by FDC’s Erias Lukwago.
