Afya Pap App Users Can Now Call, Chat with a Doctor for General Consultation

MTN Uganda and Multinational Health Technology Company Baobab Circle have enhanced the Afya Pap service to deliver access to a doctor through Afya Pap Call a Doc feature.

Baobab Circle, the team behind the Award winning Afya Pap app has responded to the demand of the customer with a comprehensive telemedicine service for people who are unable to travel to a health facility especially in this COVID-19 global crisis.

Baobab Circle’s answer to the desperation of people wanting to access medical advice has been to expand its Afya Pap service to MTN subscribers who can now call and speak to a doctor with a click of a button.

With our flagship revolutionary product, Afya Pap, patients, and healthcare providers are able to access healthcare solutions by using simple, affordable, accessible remote monitoring services in a comprehensive mobile app. The patient can use one platform to

  • Call a Doc (live online voice call consultation),
  • Ask a Doc (consultation via chat/text messaging),
  • Take and Track their readings (blood glucose and pressure) with Smart devices.
  • The health care provider can monitor patient progress remotely using the Caregiver module.

Afya Pap therefore serves as a seamless ecosystem that provides continuity of healthcare for the patient. The Afya Pap service has already attracted over 10,000 users in Uganda who are able to call and speak to a qualified doctor conveniently, any time anywhere within the comfort of their homes. Afya pap can be downloaded on the Google Play Store. This advancement in healthcare should hopefully prove to be a positive addition to the system, as it will cater to a myriad of people. It is important for this sector to adapt to changing ways so that patients are able to have the medical access that they need. This includes using things such as NDIS plan management software for a more streamlined and efficient service, as well as other related software that is there for the benefit of the staff and patients.

“At MTN, we seek to create a bright and bold new digital world for our customers by creating products and services that are relevant to our customers in their daily life. We are excited about the addition of the Call A Doc service to the Afya Pap app and we believe that it is going to serve a lot of customers who need affordable and convenient access doctor consultation services” said Susan Kayemba, Senior Manager Digital Services, MTN Uganda.

Susan further added that customers can download the Afya Pap mobile App from the Google Play store and register to use it. All new users of the App will be given a 14-day FREE trial inclusive of data. Upon expiry of the FREE trial, customers can then buy subscription using MTN MoMo within the Afya Pap App. The available subscription plan is 30 days at ONLY UGX 4,000, inclusive of the data for using the App.

Dr. Precious Lunga, Epidemiologist and CEO at Baobab Circle says, “The current challenges we see from all parts of the world have taught us that health is our greatest wealth. Over 100,000 Ugandans die from Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) related complications due to lack of proper disease management.

As a company using technology to improve health outcomes, we believe that this grave statistic can be mitigated by supporting patients with a remote monitoring platform and access to a doctor through Afya Pap Call a Doc. We are privileged to partner with MTN to provide technology enabled healthcare solutions to Ugandans.”

Dr. Stella Kivila, Pharmacist and Head of Corporate Partnerships at Baobab Circle says, “24.8 Million Ugandans own mobile phones out of the country’s population of 44.5 Million people. Mobile technology is therefore the most affordable and accessible channel of delivering healthcare to achieve universal health coverage.” She adds, “In the current COVID-19 global pandemic where people are encouraged to exercise social distancing, Afya Pap Call a Doc feature therefore enables one to use what they already have (a mobile phone) to access healthcare at the comfort of their homes. It gives us a great pleasure to partner with MTN to support Ugandans to access Better Health Now.”
