Presidential Candidate Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has advised voters and his supporters to stay at the polling station and guard their votes saying they will not be breaking the law.
“We encourage the voters to turn up in large numbers and exercise their rights. Do not pay attention to Mr Byabakama’s illegal pronouncements. You’ll not be breaking any law by staying at the polling station,” he said.
Bobi Wine was Tuesday speaking at a joint opposition press conference held at Hotel Africana in the capital Kampala.
The Press Conference was attended by among others FDC Presidential Candidate Patrick Amuriat Oboi, Alliance for National Transformation candidate Greg Mugisha Muntu, former Presidential candidate Col. Kizza Besigye, NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi among others.
Bobi Wine’s advice comes against a directive by Deputy Inspector general of Police Maj. Gen. Paul Lokech who warned voters to “strictly go home” after voting.
Lokech warned that the Police will not accept any chaos and disorder in the country and nobody will shake their resolve as they are a very resilient force with an agile team able to adjust and adapt to any threat.
He says no country is immune to riots and lawlessness and it is the task of the security forces to secure the state and this is what they are going to do.
Lokech says that they will not accept mass assemblies around the polling areas as Electoral Commission has guided and Ugandans should cooperate with them.
The electoral period has been marred with violence with security brutality handling Ugandans. At least five dozen Ugandans have been killed since campaigns started in November.
