Uganda Orders 18 Million Doses of Covid19 Vaccine from India

The government through the Ministry of Health has placed an order for 18 million doses of covid19 vaccines from India, The Tower Post reports.

According to the cabinet, the 18 doses which are part of the first batch of vaccines will cater for persons aged 50 years and above, health workers, security personnel, teachers and persons with underlying health conditions.

The order comes barely a week following the launch of the first trial of Ugandan made Covid19 treatment by President Yoweri Museveni.

In December 2020, the Ministry of Health ordered for 9 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine amid surging new infections in the country. The vaccines are expected to be in the country mid this year and the first batch is expected to cover only 20% of the country’s total population.
