Supreme Court Judge, Justice Dr Esther Kisakye has flown out of the country for a medical check-up, the Judiciary has revealed.
According to the Judiciary Public Relations Officer Jamson Karemani, Kisakye sought permission from Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo to go for the check-up in a country he didn’t name and permission was granted.
Karemani has also disputed allegations on various social media platforms saying that Kisakye was flown out in a critical condition.
“It’s true she travelled out of the country. She went for some medical check-up and she’s not very ill. She went on her own and she travelled after being granted permission by the Chief Justice. You know when they are getting out of the country they have to seek permission”, said Karemani.
However, according to sources that preferred anonymity, Kisakye went to South Africa for an eye check-up.
In 2019, the then Chief Justice Bart Katureebe was also hospitalized in South Africa where he had gone for a cataract surgery ahead of the long-awaited judgement in the case that sought to remove the lower and upper age limits to stand for Presidency and local councils in the Constitution.
Recently, Kisakye has been in the limelight for having accused Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo of confiscating her file. This was on March 18th and 19th 2021 when Kisakye wanted to read her minority ruling in the election petition that was withdrawn by former Presidential Candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu who wanted to overturn the victory of the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni.
Kisakye has since vowed never to be gagged by the Chief Justice arguing that his action was unconstitutional.
