Akol celebrates with his fans and supporters on streets of Gulu.

High Court sitting in Gulu has declared Anthony Akol as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Kilak County North, The Tower Post reports.

The declaration followed a decision by court to dismiss the election petition filed by Christopher Ojera which was challenging Akol’s victory.

Akol who entered the elections representing opposition Forum for Democratic Change – FDC garnered 6,534 votes while Ojera who ran on the National Resistance Movement – NRM ticket came second with 6,366 votes.

The race which attracted eight contestants had five independent candidates and one member from the biggest opposition party, the National Unity Platform – NUP.

In Gulu, Akol’s fans hit the streets to celebrate their upheld victory after the High Court’s decision.

In parliament, Akol is a member of the Committee on Human Rights, Finance and Planning and Economic Development.

In July 2021, he was elected the leader of the Acholi Parliamentary Group (APG) with 11 votes defeating Omoro District Woman Member of Parliament, Catherine Lamwaka who scored 10 votes.
