Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu Takes Over as UPDF Spokesperson

Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu has taken over the office of the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces – UPDF in Acting Position, The Tower Post reports.

The development was announced by Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso who has been serving in the position since August 2020.

Byekwaso said in a post via her Social Media that she will be taking off one year to attend a course at the National Defence College in Jinja,

“I have today officially handed over the Office of Defence Spokesperson to my Deputy Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu as I prepare to attend National Defence College,” Byekwaso said in a tweet.

“I wish Lt Col Kakurungu the very best of luck,” she added.

Byekwaso has served as the UPDF spokesperson since August 2020 when he replaced Brigadier Richard Karemire, who was transferred to the East African Community headquarters as the Defence Liaison Officer.

Kakurungu has also been serving as Byekwaso’s deputy.
