South Sudan: Two Police Officers Shot Dead in Nimule

At least two police officers have been shot dead in Nimule town of Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State on Thursday, a local official said.

The incident happened barely two days after about 20 people were killed and several others injured in Melijo village of Nimule town by unknown attackers.

The Commissioner of Magwi County, Mr David Otto Remson, told Radio Tamazuj that the two officers were killed while on duty patrol around midday.

He identified the two officers as Taban Charles and Taban Joseph.

Commissioner Remson accused the cattle herders in the area of carrying out the attack.

“One of my police officers called Taban Charles was shot while patrolling the town, and the other officer killed is called Taban Joseph,” he explained.

For his part Abraham Makur, the Secretary-General for Jonglei cattle herders confirmed the incident and called on the national government to intervene into the issue.

“If the government does not take any measure now, then it will not be only two people,” Abraham warned.
