Uganda Hippos have left to Sudan for the 2023 AFCON U20 Qualifiers due October 28 to November 11, 2022.
The team coached by Jackson Mayanja has 24 players who are targeting to book a slot to the AFCON U20 final tournament due next year in Egypt.
Only three players who were part of the 2021 Hippos squad that reached the AFCON U20 finals in Mauritania have made the trip and these are Isma Mugulusi, Wabyoona Faisal and goalkeeper Denis Ssenyondwa.
“We almost have a new team from that of Morley Byekwaso that reached the AFCON U20 finals,” Coach Mayanja stated.
“We have just built a new team and we hope to do better. If the boys exhibit their good show that they showed in friendlies against KCCA and Maroons, I can assure you that we will go very far in this tournament.”
Uganda are pitted against Tanzania and Ethiopia in a three-team group B.
