20-Year-Old South Sudanese Stabbed to Death in a Refugee Camp in Uganda

The chairperson of the South Sudanese refugee community at the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement in Bweyale, Uganda says a 20-year-old man was stabbed to death during a fight of criminal gangs on Sunday morning.

Rek Boak said on Wednesday that the deceased is identified as Sebit Madut, a South Sudanese national.

“The incident happened at 4:30 am on Sunday when a group of gangsters started to fight among themselves at Bweyale Refugee camp. They attacked this young man who was with another gang and stabbed him dead using a knife,” he said.

Boak said, “I arrested two suspects who are suspected to be part of the attack and they are now being investigated over the incident.”

The community chairman condemned the attack and urged the relatives of the deceased to remain calm and allow authorities to handle the matter.

“My message to the South Sudanese at Bweyale refugee camp in Uganda is to be peaceful, not in violence,” Boak urged.
