Salva Kiir: Implementation of Juba Peace Deal Vital for Peace in Sudan

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Monday for more efforts in the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement, saying it will help Sudan reach a political solution for peace and stability to prevail.

He made the remarks during a meeting with a member of the Sudan Transitional Sovereign Council, Lt. General Yasser Abdul Rahman Al-Atta and the Chadian special envoy, El Sheikh Ebn El Omar in the capital, Juba.

The meeting discussed the status of the implementation of the Juba peace accord.

Sudanese government officials are in Juba for a workshop to evaluate the Juba Agreement for Peace, which was signed in Juba on October 3, 2020.

Speaking during the workshop, South Sudan’s presidential advisor on security, Tut Gatluak Manime said his country and neighbouring Sudan have a deep-rooted historical relation.

“We aspire to reach a political solution restoring Sudan to its normal position,” he explained, stressing that the Juba government was keen on the stability of Sudan.

According to Gatluak, the workshop will discuss provisions yet to be implemented ahead of the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement.

Gen. Yasser Al-Ata said the workshop aims to remove obstacles impeding the implementation of the agreement, citing the major obstacles that have directly affected the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement.

He, however, appealed to the parties to work together to overcome these obstacles.
