South Sudan: Kiir Promises to Upgrade Wau Stadium to World-Class Facility

President Salva Kiir Mayardit, who is also the ruling SPLM Party chairman, has promised to upgrade the Wau Stadium in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

On 18 March while addressing a public rally at the main stadium in Wau in Western Bahr el Ghazal State, President Salva Kiir pledged to build 60 kilometers of paved roads within the town and donate two emergency ambulances to Wau Teaching Hospital in the state.

However, to date, none of the promises have come to fruition.

Last month, some of the residents in Wau town expressed concern and said President Kiir needs to fulfill his pledges since he was the one who voluntarily made them.

On Tuesday, while addressing a mammoth crowd of SPLM party supporters at Wau Stadium, Kiir, at the end of his speech, this time promised to upgrade the Wau Stadium into a world-class sports facility since according to him it is the only stadium in the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region that hosts regional events.

“In Bahr el Ghazal, you do not have a stadium. This is the useless stadium that you only have in Bahr el Ghazal,” he said. “I am going to rehabilitate it so that it can be at an international standard because it is the only one that can accommodate all the people.”

“I will do this,” Kiir promised.
