South Sudan: Juba Gets First Female Mayor

Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony on Friday issued a gubernatorial decree appointing Flora Gabriel Modi as the new mayor of the Juba City Council.

Flora makes history as the first woman appointed mayor of the Juba City Council. Until her new appointment, she served as Commissioner General of the State Investment Authority.

In another gubernatorial decree read on the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Governor Adil restructured the office of Juba City Council to include the Mayor of Juba City Council, Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance, Deputy Mayor for Social Services and Deputy Mayor for Environment and Waste Management.

He then appointed Mogga Franco Wani as 1st Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance, Thiik Thiik Mayardit as 2nd Deputy Mayor for Social Services, Emmanuel Juma Diyo as 3rd Deputy Mayor For Environment and Waste Management and Elizabeth Sarah Doa Zozimo as Advisor to the Juba City Council.

Separately, Governor Adil suspended Moro Isaac Jenesio from his position as the State Minister for Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies. He also revoked the appointment of Eliaba Loro Gala from his position as the Technical Advisor in the State Ministry of Finance, Planning and Investment.

In another decree, Governor Adil appointed George Pitia Stephen as the new State Investment Authority Commissioner General.
