The stage is set for an intense battle as FUFA Big League leaders Police FC welcome Uganda Premier League side NEC in a thrilling Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinal clash at the Kavumba Stadium on Wednesday.
NEC, despite being the favorites due to their top-flight status, will face a resilient Police side determined to capitalize on home advantage and their impressive cup pedigree.
Should the game end in a draw, extra time and potentially penalties loom.
NEC have had a brilliant season, currently fifth in the Uganda Premier League standings with 40 points, and mathematically, can still secure a debut title in their maiden season in the top flight.
On the other hand, Police, sitting atop the FUFA Big League table, are fueled by the desire for revenge after NEC denied them a promotion spot in the previous season.
NEC’s ascension to the Premier League after finishing third, left Police reeling in fourth as they were favourites to clinch the third promotional slot to secure a return to the top tier.
Both teams have shown their mettle in the competition thus far, with Police impressively eliminating Uganda Premier League outfit Bright Stars in the round of 16, while NEC overcame Busoga United to advance to the quarterfinal stage.
As NEC braces for their first-ever appearance in the Uganda Cup quarterfinals, Police will rely on their experience and determination to advance further in the competition having lost to the final last year against Vipers in Lira.
