Missing UCU Student Nathan Tuwandike Found Safe in Mukono

Police in Mukono have safely recovered Nathan Tuwandike, a 25-year-old student of Uganda Christian University (UCU) pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing Sciences, days after he was reported missing.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, officers received credible information from members of the public on March 2, 2026, at around 2:00 p.m., that Tuwandike had been seen roaming in Mukono Town.

A rapid response team was deployed and located him without incident.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the recovery in a statement.

“He is currently in safe custody as further assessments are being conducted,” Owoyesigyire said.

He thanked members of the public for their vigilance and cooperation, which he said played a crucial role in the positive outcome.

UCU also issued a statement confirming that Tuwandike had been found safe and reunited with his family.

“We are pleased to inform the university community and all UCU stakeholders that Nathan Tuwandike… has been found safe and sound. He has been successfully reunited with his family,” the university said.

The institution expressed gratitude to the Uganda Police Force for their “timely and critical intervention” and urged students to continue looking out for one another “in the Christian spirit of being our brother’s and sister’s keeper.”

Neither the Police nor the university provided details on the circumstances of Tuwandike’s disappearance or what happened during the period he was missing, which began on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

The lack of explanation has sparked questions and speculation within the student community, with some calling on the university and authorities to clarify the events surrounding his absence.

Unconfirmed reports show that Tuwandike was facing mental health challenges prior to going missing.

Authorities have said further details will be communicated in due course following ongoing assessments.

The recovery brings relief to the UCU community and highlights the importance of public cooperation in missing persons cases.
