112 Arrested in Kampala Police Crackdown on Criminal Hideouts

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance safety and curb criminal activity in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, police conducted coordinated operations targeting suspected criminal hideouts, resulting in the arrest of 112 suspects across various divisions.

The operations took place in Kira Road, Ntinda, Nateete, Entebbe, and Kasangati, where security teams dismantled groups allegedly involved in theft, burglary, vandalism, and other criminal activities.

In the Kira Road Policing Area, specifically in Mulimira and Kyebando, police arrested 31 suspects during an operation led by the Divisional Police Commander.

The suspects are currently being held at Kira Road Police Division for screening and fingerprinting.

In Ntinda’s Kigowa area, officers intercepted suspected criminals who fled the scene, abandoning dangerous weapons including pangas, hammers, iron bars, sticks, and jerrycans containing suspected fuel.

Two suspects were later arrested while hiding in a residential garage.

Preliminary investigations indicate they were allegedly planning arson attacks related to a land dispute.

In Nateete’s Kanaala Zone, one suspect was arrested in possession of four suspected stolen motorcycles and several number plates.

Police say verification of ownership is still underway.

In Entebbe (Bunono and Guda areas), 31 suspects were arrested during operations targeting theft, burglary, and vandalism.

They are expected to appear in court soon.

In Kasangati Division, police arrested more than 47 suspects from betting centres and known criminal hideouts in Wampewo Ward, Gayaza, and Kijabijjo.

Additionally, two suspects were detained for allegedly operating an illegal garage used to dismantle stolen motorcycles, with several motorcycle parts and number plates recovered.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire stated that the operations form part of sustained efforts to disrupt criminal networks.

“Police have noted that some criminal elements are using betting centres, unfinished buildings, and makeshift structures as hideouts,” Owoyesigyire said.

“These operations are ongoing and are aimed at ensuring public safety and eliminating criminality.”

Police confirmed that all suspects remain in custody pending screening, further investigations, and possible court proceedings.
