Ugandan authorities have seized a luxury Rolls-Royce Cullinan belonging to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged illicit enrichment and corruption.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID), supported by the UPDF and other agencies, towed the high-end vehicle from Among’s residence in Kigo (Mutungo-Kigo), Wakiso District.
A police low-bed carrier was used to transport the car amid a heavy security cordon around the property.
The operation follows weekend raids on Among’s Nakasero and Kigo properties.
Authorities searched the homes for over 16 hours, recovering documents and other exhibits.
Among reportedly declined to grant investigators direct access to the vehicle, leading to its forcible seizure for forensic examination. Two staff members were reportedly detained during the raids.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan 2025 model is valued at approximately Shs3.4 billion.
It was imported from the UK and cleared at Entebbe International Airport under “Anita Foundation Limited.”
The purchase drew widespread public outrage amid questions about the source of funds, especially given Among’s previous UK and US sanctions linked to graft allegations, including the Karamoja iron sheets scandal.
President Yoweri Museveni is reported to have ordered a probe into her assets following complaints about unexplained wealth. No formal charges have been filed against Among as investigations continue.
The dramatic seizure has sparked intense public debate on accountability for public officials. Among has not issued a public statement on the matter.
