Security agencies on May 20, 2026, intensified their investigations into alleged corruption, illicit enrichment, and money laundering by seizing two additional private vehicles from the Nakasero residence of outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among.
The vehicles—a pair of Toyota Land Cruisers with registration numbers UA 630BE and UBH 138W—were loaded onto a police flatbed truck under heavy security and transported to Naguru Police Headquarters, where other impounded assets from the probe are being held.
The operation at Among’s upscale Nakasero home unfolded with a significant security deployment. Lawyers representing the Bukedea District Woman MP, including prominent counsel Caleb Alaka, arrived at the scene while searches continued.
This latest action follows earlier raids on Among’s Kigo residence, where authorities towed away a high-value Rolls-Royce Cullinan (reportedly worth around $440,000–$900,000 USD or Shs3.4–3.6 billion) bearing registration UA 426 EH, along with a Range Rover (AAA-3). Those luxury vehicles were also moved to Naguru for forensic examination and as evidence in the probe.
Investigators have additionally sealed the offices of Among and Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesigye at Parliament, treating them as active crime scenes. A specialized evidence collection team arrived with a van to retrieve documents and electronic materials linked to the investigations.
The crackdown is part of the newly launched “Operation Maliza Ufisadi” (Operation End Corruption), spearheaded by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) in coordination with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and other agencies.
It was publicly backed by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who declared that “no one will be spared.” The operation reportedly follows direct orders from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The developments have placed intense political pressure on Among, who on May 17, 2026, announced her decision not to contest for the Speakership of the 12th Parliament.
She cited the need for party harmony within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and ongoing scrutiny. Her withdrawal has cleared the path for other candidates, including those backed by the Patriotic League of Uganda.
Among has pledged full cooperation with the investigations.
The probe continues to widen, with searches reportedly extending across multiple properties and drawing in associates.
This high-profile case underscores the Ugandan government’s renewed push against corruption at the highest levels.
