Police Seals Off FDC Offices, Raids Deputy Lord Mayor’s Offices

Police have sealed off the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) offices in Kampala as well as City Hall.

Police surrounded the Najjanankumbi-based offices, blocking people from entering.

FDC officials had announced a plan to march to Parliament on Thursday to petition the speaker over a plot by NRM MPs to lift the age limit.

A bill to be tabled by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi seeks to delete article 102b that provides for the upper age limit of 75 above which one is not allowed to stand for president.

If the article is not deleted, Uganda’s three-decade president Yoweri Museveni will be ineligible for reelection when the east African land locked third world country next goes to the polls in 2021.

Meanwhile, Police raided City Hall and searched Deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike’s office.

Nine T-shirts with ‘Togibiikula’ (Don’t open the Constitution) inscriptions were confiscated.

KCCA councillors had also planned a protest march from City Hall to Constitutional Square over the age limit removal plot.

Police chief Kale Kayihura on Wednesday banned all age limit protests.
