Opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has sued Uganda’s Police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura for disrupting party presidential campaigns.

In an application filed by Buhweju County MP Francis Mwijukye, FDC wants the High Court in Kampala to restrain police from cancelling party presidential campaign rallies.

FDC is conducting campaigns for party president elections scheduled for November 24, 2017.

The incumbent, (Rtd) Maj Gen Gregory Mugisha Muntu is competing with Patrick Amuriat, Moses Byaruhanga and Dan Malcom Matsiko.

Mwijukye also wants court to stop Kayihura from issuing any orders banning party rallies.

He faults police for disrupting rallies, destroying property, injuring and killing party supporters in the process of dispersing the gatherings.

Affected rallies include those of Amuriat in the districts of Rukungiri, Lira, Gulu and Kampala.

Mwijukye says police’s actions contravene the Public Order Management ACT and the Political Parties Act.

The vocal MP is being represented by Sewankambo and Co Advocates.
